Some people have a desire to explore the world and take pride in traveling to many different countries. They love to experience new locations, customs and traditions. It is fascinating to travel to a country much different from your own and observe and enjoy a different type of lifestyle. If you are a frequent traveler or plan to be one someday, there are a variety of ways you can limit your out of pocket expenditures.
- Join a hotel rewards program. Determine which countries are on your priority list to visit, and find a hotel chain that has hotels in those areas. Join their program and try to stay at their residences, and you will begin to receive discounts on your stays as you earn reward points.
- Choose your credit card prudently. The best credit card for travelers, such as the Capital One card, should allow you to accrue travel reward points, which can help offset your airline expenses. In addition, the card should charge 0% for foreign transaction fees. Most credit cards charge 3% for each foreign transaction, so if you choose a card that does not charge for these, you will save quite a bit of money ($90 if you charge $3,000 while traveling).
- Exchange your currency at your local bank. Rather than paying hefty fees at the currency exchange booth in the airport, go to your local bank to exchange the money. (You may need to call a week or two ahead of time so the bank can make sure they have the currency you need.)
